Extreme drought continues to impact Mid-Missouri forcing cities and counties to put burn bans in place.
Mid-Missouri saw rain over the weekend, but not enough for burn bans to be lifted. The burn bans in place discourage any type of fire including bonfires, camp fired, fireworks and controlled burns.
Chariton County issued a burn advisory last week discouraging the use of fire; while Monroe County, Fulton and Sedalia issued burn bans that are still in place.
The U.S drought monitor map shows many Mid-Missouri counties in the red as the drought continues to hammer the area. Cooper, Miller, Morgan, Moniteau and Cole counties are all experiencing "extreme drought."
Parts of Boone County are shown to be in "extreme drought," while the majority of the county is experience "severe drought."
Boone County has not issued a burn ban but one could be issued if conditions worsen. Cole County announced a burn advisory Friday.
Any fireworks aside from sparklers are illegal in Columbia city limits and fireworks are banned in Jefferson City limits.
