Despite not being on the agenda, the possible reappointment of a library board member dominated discussion at Monday’s city council meeting.

The debate on whether to reappoint Brian Kirk as vice president of the St. Joseph Public Library’s Election Committee was the central topic, but the issue is larger than himself, Kirk said, who visited City Hall but remained outside during the meeting.

"We are coming for your kids." Enough said. I attended most of the meeting where I witnessed numerous disruptive outbursts from the opposition, which I found highly inappropriate. The purpose of the meeting was to foster a civil conversation, not to engage in personal grievances. It is the mayor's responsibility to maintain order and remove individuals if necessary, regardless of their affiliation. It is important to voice opinions respectfully by utilizing the designated podium rather than staying seated and making unconstructive remarks.
